October 17, (THEWILL) — Paul Daniel “Ace” Frehley, co-founder and original lead guitarist of the iconic rock band KISS, has died at the age of 74.
Frehley passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Morristown, New Jersey, following complications from a fall, his family confirmed in a statement.
According to reports, the guitarist suffered a brain bleed after a fall in his studio several weeks earlier, forcing him to cancel the remainder of his 2025 tour dates.
In a statement shared by his family, they expressed deep sorrow over his passing.
“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate to surround him with love, peace, and prayers as he left this earth. We cherish his laughter, his strengths, and his kindness. Ace’s memory and legacy will live on forever,” the statement read.
Born in New York City, Frehley co-founded KISS in 1973 alongside Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss. Known for his “Spaceman” persona, he helped define the band’s larger-than-life image with its flamboyant costumes, face paint, and electrifying performances.
Frehley’s innovative guitar work was instrumental in shaping KISS’s signature sound, contributing to some of their biggest hits including Rock and Roll All Nite, Detroit Rock City, and I Was Made for Lovin’ You.
After leaving KISS in 1982, he launched a successful solo career with his band Frehley’s Comet before rejoining KISS for their 1996 reunion tour, which lasted until 2002.
His solo hits, including Back in the New York Groove and Into the Night, cemented his status as one of rock’s most influential guitarists.
Frehley was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with KISS in 2014, a milestone that recognised his enduring impact on rock music and generations of musicians.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, and other family members.
