March 22, (THEWILL)- Leicester City has declared its intention to take legal action against the English Premier League following recent financial allegations. The club faces charges for purportedly violating the division’s Profit & Sustainability Rules throughout its final three seasons in the league, alongside allegations of failing to furnish audited financial reports.
In an official statement, the club asserted: “LCFC has been compelled today to issue two urgent legal proceedings against the Premier League and the EFL,” emphasising the need for each case to be adjudicated by an impartial legal panel.
Leicester’s legal action comes in response to accusations of exceeding the permitted financial losses threshold outlined by Premier League regulations. The EPL’s Profit & Sustainability rules dictate that clubs must not incur losses exceeding £105 million over a rolling three-year period.
Leicester’s breach is purportedly linked to the financial records spanning the years leading up to and encompassing the 2022/2023 season, during which the club faced relegation from the top-flight division.
This development places Leicester among a growing list of football clubs facing scrutiny for financial irregularities within the Premier League. Everton, another club found in violation of the Profit & Sustainability regulations, previously experienced a reduction in points deduction on appeal. However, the Toffees, along with Nottingham Forest, face additional outstanding charges under the same regulations.
