April 05, (THEWILL) – RB Leipzig, the current DFB Pokal champions, advanced to the semi-finals with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.
From the opening whistle, Leipzig set the tone and launched a series of attacks on Dortmund’s goal. Despite goalkeeper Gregor Kobel’s impressive saves, Timo Werner was able to break through in the 22nd minute, capitalizing on Mohamed Simakan’s low cross to score the opener.
Leipzig continued to dominate in the first half and had numerous opportunities to increase their lead. However, it wasn’t until the 98th minute that they sealed their victory with a goal from Willi Orban. The team’s aggressive attacking style paid off, despite Kobel’s efforts to keep Dortmund in the game.
With this win, Leipzig kept their hopes of retaining the cup alive and will face Hertha Berlin in their next match in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile Dortmund will face Union Berlin on Saturday also in the Bundesliga.
