April 05, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe has voiced his support for Romelu Lukaku after the Inter Milan striker was subject to racial abuse during their 1-1 draw against Juventus.
As THEWILL reported, Lukaku was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for gesturing to the crowd after scoring a penalty in the Italian Cup semi-final. He later revealed that he was responding to racist taunts from the crowd.
Mbappe took to Instagram to condemn the incident, writing: “2023 and still the same problems. But we’re not going to let it keep happening. All against racism.” Lukaku also spoke out, urging Serie A to take real action against discrimination. He said: “I hope the league really take actions for real this time because this beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone.”
The Italian league issued a statement condemning racism and discrimination, but did not specifically mention Lukaku. Juventus have also said that they are working with authorities to identify supporters who may have been involved in the incident.
The ugly scenes at the end of the match marred what had been an otherwise hard-fought and competitive game between the two sides.
