November 29, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has won the newly created “Striker of the Year” title, as expected, during the 2021 Ballon d’Or currently underway.

With an amazing 41 Bundesliga goals, Lewandowski finished as the best scorer in Europe’s top domestic leagues and pundits believe he deserved the 2019/2020 Ballon d’Or but was denied when COVID-19 caused the cancellation of the prize ceremony.

Lewandowski not only won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich, but he also won the European Golden Shoe and shattered Gerd Muller’s 49-year Bundesliga goal record.

Last season, he scored nine goals in 11 appearances for Poland, three of which came at Euro 2020. As a result, he became the first Polish player to score in three European Championships in a row.

In his acceptance speech, Lewandowski thanked his teammates and family, and he joined the audience in viewing a montage of some of his 60+ goals in 2021.
