August 26, (THEWILL) — US rapper, Lil Nas X, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer following an early morning incident in Los Angeles last week.
The rapper was arrested last Thursday, after police responded to a report of a nude man on Ventura Boulevard around 5:30 a.m.
He was later taken to a hospital for evaluation due to a suspected overdose.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office has charged him with three felony counts of battery on a police officer with injury and one count of resisting an executive officer. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.
According to LAPD Officer, Drake Madison, the rapper charged at officers upon their arrival. During the altercation, he reportedly punched an officer twice in the face.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman confirmed on Monday that three officers were injured during the arrest
“Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be”, he stated.
Lil Nas X was held on $75,000 bail, with a condition that requires him to attend a drug treatment programme. He remained in jail over the weekend until his arraignment.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 15, for a pre-trial hearing.
