May 10, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have retained an interest in acquiring Aurelien Tchouameni from Real Madrid, even if it means getting him on a temporal basis, like a seasonal loan.
The Reds have been eyeing the midfielder for quite some time and made several attempts to bring him to Anfield during the 2021/2022 football season, with Chelsea also pushing for his signature before facing sanctions by the UK Government during the onset of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
After a successful stint in Monaco, Tchouameni had his pick of clubs to join and eventually chose Real Madrid for a fee that could reach €100m based on signing add-ons. Liverpool’s need to retool, particularly in midfield, has become evident this season, and they remain big fans of the French international.
While Real Madrid has no intention of letting Tchouameni go so soon after bringing him to the Spanish capital, Liverpool have informed the Spanish club of their interest in acquiring him should he become available. The competition for midfield spots at Real Madrid is fierce, with Jude Bellingham expected to join this summer and Toni Kroos and Luka Modric signing new deals.
Nonetheless, Liverpool would still be interested in getting Tchouameni on a loan agreement, even if a permanent transfer is not possible. Other midfielders on the radar for the Reds include Mason Mount, James Maddison, Florian Neuhaus, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister.
