June 30, (THEWILL) – Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Chelsea midfielder, has officially sealed a four-year deal with AC Milan, according to announcements made by both clubs on Friday.
Although the financial terms were not disclosed, British media revealed that the 27-year-old, who has been with Chelsea since the age of eight, was signed by AC Milan for an initial fee of €16 million.
Chelsea bid farewell to Loftus-Cheek in an official statement, stating: “After 19 years as a Chelsea player, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has left the club and completed a permanent transfer to AC Milan.” The statement also acknowledged Loftus-Cheek’s professionalism and popularity, describing him as a dedicated professional and a friendly individual.
During his time at Chelsea, Loftus-Cheek amassed 155 appearances, scoring 13 goals, and notched several notable achievements, including winning the English Premier League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup. Loftus-Cheek’s move to AC Milan is part of a series of departures from Chelsea, including forward Kai Havertz’s transfer to Arsenal and midfielder Mateo Kovacic’s move to Manchester City. Other notable players, such as defender Kalidou Koulibaly, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, and midfielder N’Golo Kante, have also left Chelsea, finding new destinations in Saudi Arabia.
While Chelsea had a disappointing season, finishing 12th in the EPL, AC Milan managed to secure a fourth-place finish in Serie A, earning them a spot in the prestigious UCL. Loftus-Cheek becomes Milan’s second signing this summer, following the transfer of backup goalkeeper, Marco Sportiello, from Atalanta on a free transfer.
