February 23, (THEWILL) — England international, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, faces several months on the sidelines after sustaining a fractured jaw during AC Milan’s Serie A defeat to Parma at the San Siro on Sunday.
The injury occurred in the 10th minute when the Milan midfielder collided with Parma goalkeeper, Edoardo Corvi, while attempting to connect with a cross. Loftus-Cheek was subsequently removed from the pitch on a stretcher, unable to continue.
Local media reported that the damage extended beyond the jaw fracture itself, with Loftus-Cheek also sustaining a fractured alveolar bone, broken upper teeth and two lacerations. Reports described the injury as very serious, with surgery confirmed for Monday.
The severity of the injuries indicates that a return to first-team football remains some months away. AC Milan did not issue a formal statement on the matter within normal business hours.
