November 18, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman stands among five exceptional footballers nominated for the prestigious African Player of the Year award, the Confederation of African Football announced on Monday.
The Atalanta forward earned his nomination following outstanding performances throughout the season, most notably scoring three goals in the UEFA Europa League final where his team defeated the previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen 3-0.
The triumph marked a significant milestone in European club competition for both Lookman and the Italian side.
Fellow nominees include Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.
The winner will be revealed during an awards ceremony scheduled for December 16 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The current nomination follows Victor Osimhen’s recognition in 2023 when he received the award before his subsequent transfer to Galatasaray this season.
