April 30, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 title challenge hit a stumbling block on Sunday, as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Lorient.
The setback came despite a spirited effort from the home side, who played with ten men after Achraf Hakimi’s dismissal in the 20th minute. Lorient put in a fine performance, with goals from Enzo Le Fee, Darlin Yongwa and Bamba Dieng earning them a deserved win.
Hakimi’s second yellow card was followed by Le Fee’s opener, and things looked bleak for PSG. However, Kylian Mbappe’s controversial goal restored parity for the hosts. Despite PSG’s man disadvantage, they pushed hard for another equaliser after the break, but it was Lorient, who would score again. A breakaway goal from Dieng sealed the win for the visitors.
The defeat was PSG’s third in their last six league matches, but they remain in a strong position in the table, eight points clear of second-placed Marseille with a game in hand. Meanwhile, Lorient will be delighted with their impressive victory, which takes them up to 10th place in the standings.
PSG will look to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Lorient when they take on Troyes on Sunday, without Hakimi, who will be suspended. Lorient, on the other hand, will be full of confidence when they face Brest on Sunday.
