October 21, (THEWILL) – Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has provided an update on the injury status of midfield linchpin Casemiro and left-back Luke Shaw. The Brazilian international limped off during his country’s October internationals but is nearing a return to action.

Casemiro picked up an ankle injury in Brazil’s draw with Venezuela but completed 90 minutes days later against Uruguay. While he misses this weekend’s English Premier League clash, Ten Hag confirmed the 30-year-old should be back for the derby with Manchester City next Sunday.

“You can’t blame him for playing on – they are the rules when on international duty,” said Ten Hag. “He’s a soldier who’s always ready to play for club and country.”

In contrast, Shaw faces a lengthier spell on the sidelines. The England defender has been missing since August with a hamstring problem and is not expected to return until after the November international break.

“I don’t expect Shaw back in the next few games,” admitted Ten Hag. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is nearing a comeback while youngster Kobbie Mainoo is also making progress after injury.
