February 12, (THEWILL) – Manchester United secured a late victory against Leeds United on Sunday, with Marcus Rashford scoring his 21st goal of the season.
The first half of the match was an intense and frenetic encounter, with both sides creating chances, but unable to convert them into goals. Crysencio Summerville, the recalled Leeds forward, had two great opportunities to open the scoring, but was denied by the combined efforts of David de Gea and Harry Maguire.
On the other end, Illan Meslier kept Bruno Fernandes’ effort at bay, while De Gea turned Summerville’s drive around the post just after the break. Despite Leeds’ persistence, it was Manchester United who came out on top. Rashford and Wout Weghorst had goals ruled out for offside, but the Red Devils finished the game with a flourish, securing a 2-0 victory.
With this win, Manchester United leapfrog Manchester City into second place, just five points behind leaders Arsenal. On Thursday, United travel to face Barcelona in the Europa League while Leeds are away to Everton on Saturday.
