November 11, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have announced that club legend, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has departed the club following a brief interim managerial role. Van Nistelrooy, who scored 50 goals in 219 games for United between 2001 and 2006, rejoined the club in the summer as an assistant to former manager, Erik ten Hag.
After Ten Hag was sacked last month, Van Nistelrooy took over as interim head coach, leading the team for the past four matches. During his short time in charge, the Dutchman remained unbeaten and oversaw a 3-0 victory against Leicester City in his final game.
In a statement, United expressed their gratitude for Van Nistelrooy’s contributions, saying: “Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”
The club also confirmed the departures of fellow coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel. New manager Ruben Amorim, who arrived from Portugal on Monday, will turn to his own coaching staff as he takes the reins at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the Leicester match, the 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy thanked the club and supporters, saying: “We said ‘let’s make the most of these four games’, get the maximum out of it and I think we did an OK job. I really enjoyed it, it’s been a short but amazing period.”
