December 31, (THEWILL) — Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford by the English Premier League’s bottom club. The result saw the visitors end an 11-match losing run, with Ladislav Krejci’s header levelling Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected first-half strike.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute when Zirkzee swivelled away from his marker before his shot found the net via a deflection off Krejci. Benjamin Sesko then hit the woodwork from close range before Krejci restored parity, directing a header into the far corner moments before half-time.
Clear chances emerged for both sides after the restart. Goalkeeper Jose Sa produced an excellent reaction save to deny Yerson Mosquera’s header towards his own goal, whilst Senne Lammens kept out efforts from both Mosquera and Krejci at the other end.
Patrick Dorgu thought he had snatched victory in the final minute of normal time, converting the rebound after Sesko’s attempt was saved. The celebrations were cut short when the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.
The draw provides valuable breathing space for the visitors in their relegation battle, whilst the Red Devils missed an opportunity to strengthen their position in the table.
