May 22, (THEWILL) – Wilfried Zaha scored to help Crystal Palace to a 1-0 defeat of English Premier League rivals, Manchester United, but the Red Devils still had enough points to guarantee playing in the Europa League next season.
Incoming United manager, Erik ten Hag, was in attendance at Selhurst Park as Zaha put Palace ahead after a sluggish first-half performance by Ralf Rangnick’s team.
United, who were missing Cristiano Ronaldo due to injury, were unable to break through in the second half and suffered their sixth consecutive league defeat away from home.
Since West Ham were defeated by Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, United were able to retain sixth place but the club registered a record-low Premier League point total to summarise the overall decline at Old Trafford and give Ten Hag an inkling of the work ahead.
