April 05 (THEWILL) – Manchester United bounced back from a winless run in the English Premier League by defeating Brentford 1-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Marcus Rashford was the hero, scoring the game’s only goal in the first half to help Erik ten Hag’s side enact revenge for their humiliating defeat to the Bees in August. Brentford put up a good fight, but the home team remained in control throughout the match.

Manchester United started the game with a high tempo, determined to redeem themselves from their recent disappointing performances. Despite Brentford’s compact defending, United was creative and found their breakthrough midway through the first half from a corner, with Marcel Sabitzer nodding the ball to Rashford who scored from close range.

United continued to dominate and threatened to score again, but Brentford’s defence stood firm, and the visitors’ only chance was a missed header by Ivan Toney. Not much changed in the second half, as United kept up their intensity, but they were unable to extend their lead. Brentford’s Kevin Schade had a chance to equalise, but he shot straight at David de Gea.

United remained focused and shut down Brentford’s attempts at a comeback, securing the win. United will look to build on this performance when they face Everton next on Saturday. Meanwhile, Brentford will aim to bounce back at home against Newcastle.
