August 12, (THEWILL) — Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has issued a blunt ultimatum to his club, seal his transfer to Chelsea this summer or risk him sitting out the entire 2025/26 season.
The 21-year-old Argentina international’s relationship with manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly broken down, prompting him to push for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Sources close to the player say personal terms with Chelsea are already agreed, and Garnacho views the Blues as his only acceptable destination.
Chelsea’s chase for the former United academy star has intensified in recent weeks. The London club initially explored a January move before focusing on a summer deal.
To push negotiations forward, they have proposed player-swap options involving Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, and Renato Veiga, all rejected by United, who insist on a straight cash sale worth £50m.
The valuation gap remains wide. Chelsea’s opening bid of around £30m fell well short, but Garnacho’s refusal to consider other clubs has strengthened their hand, especially as United face urgent pressure to raise funds after spending over £200m on new attackers Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško.
United’s position is further weakened by Marcus Rashford’s loan exit and Garnacho’s threat to skip training and matchday squads if the deal collapses.
Chelsea are also in talks to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons, with Christopher Nkunku potentially returning to Leipzig in a move that could free up funds for both deals.
Despite the ongoing price wrangle, co-owner Todd Boehly remains confident of securing Garnacho’s signature before the window shuts.
