March 28, (THEWILL) – The Lawn Tennis Association has announced that the city of Manchester will host one of the four groups in the Davis Cup Finals in September.
The event will see four groups staged in four different cities, with eight teams advancing to the knockout rounds in Malaga. Britain, who last won the title by beating Belgium in 2015, are among the 16 teams that have qualified for the Finals after beating Colombia in a qualifier in February.
This will be the fifth different city to host the Davis Cup in Britain in the past decade, following Coventry, Glasgow, London, and Birmingham. Manchester’s hosting of the event highlights the city’s growing reputation as a hub for top-level sports, having previously hosted events such as the Commonwealth Games and UEFA Euro 1996.
The group stage of the Davis Cup Finals will take place from September 12-17, with the draw set to be held in Malaga on Wednesday. Canada are the reigning champions, having won the title in 2019. The upcoming tournament is sure to be an exciting event, with many of the world’s top tennis players expected to compete for their countries.
