April 14, (THEWILL) — Inter Miami CF confirmed on Tuesday that head coach, Javier Mascherano, has stepped down from his position, citing personal reasons for his exit from the club.
Mascherano, who took charge of the Florida outfit in late 2024, oversaw a landmark period in the club’s history. Under his leadership, Inter Miami claimed the MLS Cup title and set a competition record of 101 combined goals across the regular season and postseason in 2025. The club also became the first MLS side to reach the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup.
In a statement released by the club, Mascherano said: “I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF.” He extended his gratitude to the organisation, the playing staff, and supporters, adding: “I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the Club all the best moving forward.”
Mascherano’s backroom staff, who relocated to South Florida alongside him, will also depart following his resignation. Former professional footballer Guillermo Hoyos has been confirmed to take charge of first-team duties for forthcoming fixtures.
Inter Miami now face the challenge of sustaining their momentum in the aftermath ofthe most successful chapter in their short history, with Hoyos tasked with maintaining standards in a squad that includes global football icon Lionel Messi.
