BEVERLY HILL, January 15, (THEWILL) –Â Argentine coach Mauricio Pochettino, new manager of French football giants Paris Saint-Germain has gone into self-isolation after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, PSG said on Friday.
“Mauricio Pochettino is confirmed positive in the Sars-Cov2 PCR test. He will therefore respect isolation and is subject to the appropriate health protocol,” a statement from his club read.
The 48-year-old was appointed earlier this month to the coaching position but will not be in the dugout when PSG play away at Angers on Saturday. In his stead, his assistants Jesus Perez and Miguel D’Agostino will take charge of the squad for the league tie.
Pochettino replaced German coach Thomas Tuchel at the helm of the French champions at the start of January, 2021. In his brief time in charge, they have won two and drawn one match.
A 2-1 victory against Marseille on Wednesday saw his new side lift the Trophee des Champions, the first trophy Pochettino has won in his coaching career. It was fitting that it came in a club where he featured as a defender between 2001-2003.
Currently, PSG are second in Ligue 1 heading into the weekend clash, and sit a point behind leaders Lyon after 19 games.
