April 21, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain maintained their lead at the top of Ligue 1 after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Angers at Stade Raymond-Kopa.

Despite not being at their best, the runaway leaders secured their 14th consecutive league win over the bottom-placed side. Kylian Mbappe was the star of the show, scoring both of PSG’s goals in the first half, taking his tally to 34 for the season in all competitions.

Angers had a chance to take the lead early on when Gianluigi Donnarumma denied Ibrahima Niane. But it was PSG who opened the scoring when Mbappe scrambled the ball home after Juan Bernat cushioned Lionel Messi’s diagonal pass. Mbappe doubled his tally just 22 minutes later, rounding Angers goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni before slotting the ball into the net.

Angers mounted a late surge and were able to pull a goal back in the 87th minute through Sada Thioub’s strike, but PSG held on for the victory. With this win, PSG are now 11 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, and their next match is on Sunday against Lorient, while Angers will face Rennes on the same day.
