November 08, (THEWILL) – The highly anticipated middleweight title fight between Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams has been postponed until early 2024 due to Sheeraz suffering a perforated ear drum. The bout was originally scheduled for December 2 at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Sheeraz, who remains undefeated with 18 wins, was set to defend his WBC belt and Commonwealth title for the third and second time respectively against Williams. However, the 22-year-old will now have to wait to take on the biggest challenge of his career so far as he recovers from his ear injury over the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Williams is looking to rebuild after back-to-back defeats against Demetrius Andrade and Chris Eubank Jr earlier this year. The 31-year-old had returned to winning ways in November with a second-round knockout of Nizar Trimech at York Hall.
The other fights scheduled for December 2 at the Copper Box will now take place the previous evening at York Hall. This includes Gavin Gwynne’s clash with Emiliano Marsili for the vacant European lightweight title.
With Sheeraz and Williams eager to meet in the ring, promoters will be working to reschedule the bout for early next year. Fans will have to wait a little longer for what promises to be an entertaining middleweight title clash between the champion and the experienced campaigner Williams.
