July 01, (THEWILL) – Minnesota United have officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian midfielder, Emmanuel Iwe, as he joins the club’s first team on a one-year contract in Major League Soccer.
The deal includes club options for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 seasons, demonstrating the club’s confidence in the 22-year-old player. This signing marks a significant milestone for Iwe, who becomes the first player from MNUFC2, Minnesota United’s reserve team, to secure a first-team contract with the club.
Iwe’s promotion to the first team is a result of his exceptional performances for MNUFC2 in the MLS Next Pro League, where he contributed six goals and three assists in 27 matches. Making his Major League Soccer debut against the Vancouver Whitecaps on March 26, 2023, Iwe quickly demonstrated his potential and played additional matches for the first team against CF Montreal in the MLS and Detroit City FC in the US Open Cup.
Notably, Iwe celebrated his starting debut with a goal in a 3-1 victory over Detroit City. Prior to joining Minnesota United, Iwe honed his skills at Joy of the People, a local Saint Paul soccer academy. Notably, he was part of the Minnesota United squad that secured a resounding 4-0 win over Everton in a friendly match held in July 2022.
