November 21, (THEWILL) — Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, was crowned Miss Universe 2025 on Friday during the 74th edition of the pageant in Bangkok, Thailand.
Her triumph comes after a tense build-up that began when Thai pageant executive, Nawat Itsaragrisil, publicly called her a “dumbhead” during a viral confrontation.
Bosch walked out in protest, and several contestants joined her, prompting Itsaragrisil to threaten disqualification for anyone who sided with her.
The controversy deepened a week later when two judges resigned, with one alleging that the competition had been rigged.
The Miss Universe Organisation denied the claims, describing them as a “mischaracterisation.”
Despite the drama, Bosch’s victory was widely praised. Many saw it as a moment of dignity and courage, though some questioned whether her win was a response to the earlier scandal.
In the final rankings, Miss Thailand Praveenar Singh came in as first runner-up, Miss Venezuela Stephany Abasali placed third, followed by Miss Philippines Ahtisa Manalo and Miss Côte d’Ivoire Olivia Yacé.
