May 12, (THEWILL) – Don Moore, Floyd Mayweather’s opponent in the upcoming exhibition bout scheduled for May 14, wants to defeat the boxing icon in order to face YouTube star, Jake Paul in Nigeria.
Moore will fight former five-weight world champion Mayweather on Saturday, at the the helipad of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. Only 20 people will be in attendance, with tickets for the bout costing £150,000 each.
Moore, who was once one of Mayweather’s top sparring partners, never had the same ring success as “The Money Man” did in his career, even though Mayweather’s late uncle, Roger, mentored him and he went undefeated in 19 professional fights.
While claiming that he will use his experience in the gym with Mayweather as a “blueprint” to defeat the undefeated fighter, the 45-year-old maintains he is concentrating on Saturday’s match, even if he is planning a later confrontation with Paul.
“I would then like to fight Jake Paul in Nigeria. I’m focused on this fight first, but after this fight, I will show the world that Jake is just a YouTuber. He’s interested in the business of boxing, but he’s no boxer. I’m a real fighter. I’m a real champ and not pretending”, Moore said.
“Fight me. You’re fighting other guys. They’re not real boxers. You never fought a real boxer. So fight me. I want to fight Jake Paul – and that’s easy work for me. I want to show everybody that he’s just a YouTuber, and that you can’t play boxing.”
After taking some time away from the ring, Paul is looking for his next opponent. Former champions Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya were among the six-man “hitlist” for “The Problem Child”, who won three fights last year.
This Saturday, Moore will return to the ring for the first fight in nearly six years. For his exhibition bout with Mayweather last June, he took a shot at Paul’s brother Logan, promising to put on a bigger show than “The Maverick”.
“I have the blueprint. The most exciting thing about it is that I’ve been in the ring with him and I’ve been in camp with him day in and day out. So understand “Dangerous” Don Moore has what it takes to actually be victorious over him because I know his style,” Moore added.
I know what’s coming for me. I know how to adapt. I know how to adjust. I’m no Logan Paul, so you’re not going to be able to fight me like you fought him. I’m a boxer. However he brings it, I’m going to bring it right back to him.”
