SAN FRANCISCO, November 14, (THEWILL) – In the fallout from the embarrassing and shocking second half performance of Nigeria’s Super Eagles against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the 2021 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Friday, team skipper, Ahmed Musa, on behalf of the entire team, has unreservedly apologised and promised to put things aright in the reverse fixture.
THEWILL recalls that the Super Eagles, after scoring four quickfire goals in the first half, capitulated by allowing Sierra Leone back into the game in the second half to end the tie with a 4-4 draw.
In a video shared after the match, the ex-Leicester City winger gave a full-throated apology for the result and vowed to make things right next week in Freetown.
“This has been a real shocker. I want to, on behalf of the entire team, apologise to the generality of Nigerians for this poor result. We will go to Freetown and do the needful.
“We made costly mistakes, we sincerely apologise and we promise we will fix things and get a win in Sierra Leone,” he said.
Meanwhile, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has summoned the team technical crew of the Super Eagles to an emergency meeting slated for Saturday to discuss the atrocious match result and channel a new course for the team.
As they prepare for the return leg, THEWILL hopes their respect for the abilities of the opposing team is apparent so that they take nothing for granted in ensuring a much better result and performance than was on display in the second half on Friday.
