January 22, (THEWILL) — British singer-songwriter, Phil Collins, has shared that ongoing health problems have left him reliant on 24-hour medical care.

The 74-year-old rock legend told BBC Two’s Zoe Ball in the podcast series Phil Collins Eras: In Conversation that a live-in nurse now assists him with his medications and daily health needs.

“It’s an ongoing thing, I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do”, Collins said.

He recounted several health issues in recent years, including five knee surgeries, complications from knee problems, and a COVID-19 infection in the hospital that affected his kidneys.

“I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me”, he said.

Collins can now walk again, though he still needs assistance, such as crutches. He also reflected on past drinking habits, admitting he “probably had been drinking too much”, which contributed to his kidney problems. He recently marked two years of sobriety.

He continues to manage nerve damage from a 2007 spinal injury, which left him unable to play the drums.

Collins, who turns 75 on January 30, 2026, said he hopes to regain full mobility, though he is unsure if he will perform live again; his last concert was in 2022.

He has also faced type 2 diabetes and other conditions that forced him to limit his touring.

Despite these struggles, he remains positive. “It’s just been a difficult, interesting, frustrating last few years. But it’s all right now”, he said.
