My Husband Is Respected Man, Says Akpabio’s Wife Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Unoma and Godswill Akpabio

February 28 (THEWILL) – Unoma Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has defended her husband against sexual harassment allegations leveled by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, made the allegations during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday.

She accused Akpabio of making inappropriate advances towards her and claimed that her refusal led to him blocking her motions on the Senate floor.

She recounted an incident at Akpabio’s residence, where she alleged he made suggestive remarks.

According to her, the Senate President took her on a tour of his home, with her husband walking behind them. She claimed Akpabio implied that she could gain favor in the Senate if she “made him happy.”

Reacting to the accusations, Mrs. Akpabio dismissed them as defamatory, insisting that her husband is a disciplined and well-respected man whose jovial nature is often misinterpreted.

She accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of fabricating the claims for personal reasons.

The Senate President has previously been the subject of similar allegations.

In 2020, Joy Nunieh, a former acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission accused Akpabio of sexual harassment while he was Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. She claimed she had to slap him to fend off his advances.

Akpabio denied the allegations, describing them as “false, malicious, and libelous.”

As the latest claims make headlines, Akpabio has yet to officially respond. However, the controversy is expected to fuel further debate within the political space.
