June 03, (THEWILL) – Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has undergone minor arthroscopic surgery to review a left psoas muscle injury that has kept him out of competition.
The surgery was carried out in Barcelona and the results are expected to be announced on Saturday, according to a statement from his representative, Benito Perez-Barbadillo. Nadal has been out of action since his second-round exit at the Australian Open in January and recently confirmed that he would not be participating in Roland-Garros for the first time since 2004.
He plans to take an unspecified period of rest before potentially returning at the end of the year for the Davis Cup, with 2024 possibly being his final year on the tour. Nadal’s absence from the tennis circuit has been prolonged, with his last appearance being at the Australian Open earlier this year. After playing two matches at the United Cup, he suffered a defeat to Mackenzie McDonald.
