June 03, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain have announced the departure of veteran Spanish defender, Sergio Ramos, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
The announcement comes ahead of PSG’s final Ligue 1 match against Clermont, which will be the match before Lionel Messi’s exit and amidst rumours of Neymar’s potential departure. Unfortunately, having both Ramos and Messi did not yield the coveted UEFA Champions League title for Les Parisiens, who were eliminated in the last 16 stage in consecutive seasons.
In a statement, PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, expressed gratitude to Ramos, who joined PSG in 2021 after a successful spell at Real Madrid: “Sergio’s leadership, team spirit and professionalism, combined with his experience at the highest level, make him a true football legend, and it was an honour to have him in Paris.”
Ramos took to social media to bid farewell to PSG, describing his time at the club as “two special years in which I was able to play in every tournament and give my all.”
Ramos, who won the Ligue 1 twice during his tenure, played a total of 57 games for PSG, with his contract set to end on June 30. His departure mirrors that of Messi, and the future of Neymar at the club remains uncertain.
