May 28, (THEWILL) – The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched an investigation into singer, Speed Darlington, following a viral video in which he allegedly admitted to having a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.
In a statement made on Wednesday, via X (formerly Twitter), NAPTIP confirmed that its Cybercrime Response Team had begun probing the controversial Instagram Live video.
“This is not a skit right? If not, we are sure LagosDSVA will look into this till the very end. The NAPTIP Cybercrime Response Team has commenced investigations into the disturbing Instagram Live video. We at NAPTIP are committed to a world where children are safe and free from all forms of violence”, the agency emphasised its commitment to protecting children from exploitation.
The video sparked widespread outrage, with many social media users demanding legal action against the artist. However, Darlington later claimed the admission was merely a publicity stunt to promote his music career.
Authorities have yet to confirm the authenticity of his retraction as investigations continue.
