November 19, (THEWILL) — Nigerian celebrities have taken to social media to condemn the recent attack on a church in Kwara State and the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Kebbi State, calling on the government to urgently address the growing insecurity.
A parish of the Christ Apostolic Church was invaded during a service, with a disturbing livestream of the incident circulating online.
Rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, called on President Tinubu to take action or resign. Reposting Tinubu’s 2014 tweet demanding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s resignation over terrorism, Falz accused the current administration of failing to protect citizens.
He wrote: “How many more people have to be kidnapped and murdered in cold blood? You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. Resign now!”
Activist Verydarkman also strongly criticized the government, saying he was deeply unsettled after watching the video of the Kwara church attack. He questioned how the attackers obtained assault rifles and highlighted the vulnerability of the worshippers.
He said: “I have a reason to believe that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is no longer with us… These people dared to attack helpless people in church… These people had assault rifles. Where do they get assault rifles?”
Skit maker Mr Macaroni expressed frustration over the repeated attacks.
“Nigerians are waking up to yet another terrorist attack on a church in Kwara state… We cannot keep quiet while Nigerians are being slaughtered in different parts of the country! This is madness! It is abominable that school children have been abducted… and the President hasn’t addressed the nation to inform Nigerians of necessary actions being taken,” he wrote
Actress Funke Akindele described the incident as heartbreaking, writing: “Woke up to see a livestream video of people being attacked inside a church in Kwara… I wept seeing that old woman who couldn’t walk well running for safety. They are harmless citizens, for God’s sake!”
Actress Kate Henshaw attributed the crisis to leadership failure.
“There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian land… There is everything wrong with those saddled with the responsibility of ‘leading’ & making sure lives & property are safe. Our children are an endangered species,” she wrote
Gospel ministers Dunsin Oyekan and Nathaniel Bassey also reacted, calling for justice and divine intervention.
Oyekan wrote: “May the Lord judge the enemies of this nation once and for all in this season. These killings are too much, senseless, and cruel! Psalm 82’1-8 is my prayer in this season. And we have a government abi?????”
Bassey added: “I believe with all my heart that this is the time and season for the enemies of this nation to be judged once and for all… These killers, kidnappers, bandits… must be judged! Every one or group… that has determined that Nigeria will not rest, may their end come now in Jesus’ name.”
The rising insecurity has continued to spark widespread concern, with many Nigerians demanding decisive government action to end the persistent violence.
