April 26, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain’s hopes of finishing the 2024/2025 Ligue 1 season unbeaten ended on Friday night, following a 3-1 home defeat to Nice at the Parc des Princes. Despite already claiming the Ligue 1 title and having one eye on their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Arsenal, PSG deployed a strong line-up in a bid to maintain their unbeaten league run.
The hosts controlled the opening 30 minutes, dominating possession and creating multiple chances, but were caught off-guard when Morgan Sanson broke the deadlock for Nice in the 35th minute. The midfielder, making his first start of the campaign, latched onto Badredine Bouanani’s pass and struck a first-time finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
PSG drew level six minutes later through Fabian Ruiz, who struck a clean half-volley to beat Marcin Bulka and give the home crowd a brief lift. However, Nice struck again immediately after the interval, with Sanson volleying home from close range just 22 seconds into the second half following a lapse in PSG’s defensive organisation.
Bouanani remained central to Nice’s threat and turned provider once more in the 70th minute. His delivery from a free-kick found Youssouf Ndayishimiye, who guided a header past Donnarumma to extend the visitors’ lead. Despite PSG registering 75 percent possession and creating several clear-cut chances, their finishing let them down and Bulka’s goalkeeping proved decisive.
The result keeps Nice firmly in the race for a UEFA Champions League spot. Franck Haise’s side move up to fourth on 54 points, level with Monaco but behind on goal difference, and just one point off Marseille in second. Lille, Lyon and Strasbourg remain close behind, all within three points and with a game in hand.
