December 20, (THEWILL) – In the most recent FIFA men’s rankings, the Super Eagles have expectedly lost ground as the three-time African champions are now ranked 35 from their previous ranking of 32.
Nigeria also dropped from fourth to fifth place in the Africa standings. On the continent, the teams ahead of the Super Eagles in the rankings include the Atlas Lions of Morocco, Terangha Lions of Senegal, Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, and Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
The Super Eagles, who could not make it to the recently finished Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, also lost their friendlies last month against Portugal and Costa Rica.
Despite leaving the World Cup in the quarterfinals, Brazil continues to be the top-ranked team in the world. Argentina, who were crowned world champions, climbed to the second spot in the standings, leapfrogging Belgium.
France also climbed to third place pushing the Belgians further down to fourth. However, England remained steady in fifth while Holland in sixth place, climbed two places and Croatia, which jumped the highest of the Top 10 teams, is seventh.
