December 28, (THEWILL) – The CHAN qualifier match concluded at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday positively for the hosts as Nigeria’s Super Eagles clinched qualification for the 2024 tournament
They earned a 3-1 win over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the second leg of the tie.
Nigeria took an early lead in the match, with Sodiq Ismail scoring in the 19th minute.
Nduka Junior followed with another goal just three minutes later in the 22nd minute, and Savior Isaac completed the first-half scoring in the 26th minute.
This trio of goals gave Nigeria a strong lead going into the second half.
Despite the commanding lead, Ghana managed a response when Stephen Amenkona scored in the 73rd minute, providing some hope for the Black Galaxies.
However, this was not enough to change the outcome of the match or the series.
The first leg of this tie, played in Accra, ended without goals, making the aggregate score 3-1 in favour of Nigeria.
This result confirmed Nigeria’s passage to the CHAN tournament scheduled for February 2025 in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The victory in Uyo not only qualified Nigeria for the next CHAN but also intensified the traditional rivalry between these two West African nations in football.
The Super Eagles, led by coach Daniel Ogunmodede, showed their strength and determination, focusing now on preparing for the challenges of the continental competition.
