December 28, (THEWILL) – Enyimba has confirmed the departure of coach Yemi Olarenwaju, ending his brief stint with the club.
The official announcement was made on Saturday following a string of disappointing results that have seen the team struggling in the Nigeria Premier Football League this season.
Olarenwaju took over as head coach in May, stepping into the role after Finidi George’s departure to lead the Super Eagles.
Despite initial optimism, his tenure has been marked by a lacklustre performance in the league, with Enyimba recording eight draws, two losses, and only five wins in 15 matches of the 2024/2025 campaign.
This record has left the former champions languishing in 11th place, a position far below their usual competitive standards.
The club’s official statement on social media read in part, “Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olarenwaju.

In the wake of Olarenwaju’s exit, Enyimba has quickly moved to appoint Stanley Eguma as the new head coach.
Eguma, with his experience from Rivers United, is expected to bring a new tactical approach and revitalise the squad’s performance.
His appointment comes at a critical juncture for Enyimba, who are eager to climb up the league table.
Eguma’s immediate challenge will be to harness the potential within the current squad and reverse the fortunes of a team that has not lived up to expectations this season.
