May 20, (THEWILL) – The Central Bank of Nigeria has assured the public that the country’s banking sector remains safe, sound, and resilient despite recent reports circulating on social media.
In a statement on Monday, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, described the online reports concerning a regulated financial institution as misleading, urging Nigerians to remain calm.
“The institution referenced in these reports is subject to stringent regulatory oversight, and there is no cause for concern regarding the safety of depositors’ funds,” she said.
The apex bank noted that it actively monitors all financial institutions under its supervision through robust risk-based frameworks and early warning systems designed to detect and address potential issues promptly.
“These mechanisms ensure that any emerging risks are swiftly managed to safeguard the stability and integrity of the financial system,” the statement added.
The CBN urged the public to disregard sensational and unverified claims, stressing the importance of relying solely on official communication channels for accurate information.
“We remain committed to maintaining a secure and stable banking environment where depositors can have full confidence in the safety of their funds,” the bank said.
It added that it would continue to strengthen oversight and adapt strategies to protect the financial interests of all Nigerians and stakeholders.
