August 25, (THEWILL) – After a beautifully orchestrated opening ceremony on Tuesday to kickoff the Paralympics’ Games 2020 in Tokyo, Japan, the competitive events go into full swing on Tuesday across different Day 1 sports such as Cycling Track, Goalball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Fencing and Wheelchair Rugby.
Nigeria’s contingent will begin in the Women’s singles class 10 Table Tennis event as Faith Obazuaye takes on Chinese athlete Tien Shiau Wen in Group C. In the Men’s singles class, Alabi Olabiyi Olufemi will face his Chinese opponent Lian Hao in the same group.
In class 8 of Group A, the tennis competition of the first round will match the skills of two “victors” as Team Nigeria’s Victor Farinloye will take on Viktor Didukh from Ukraine while another Ukrainian Ivan Mai will compete against Nigeria’s Tajudeen Agunbiade in class 9 of Group B.
Ahmed Koleosho will seek to qualify from Group D by ensuring victory against Germany’s Thomas Brüchle in their class 3 encounter on Wednesday as well while the rest of the tennis action will continue on Thursday when Isau Ogunkunle will be in action against France’s Maxime Thomas.
Ahead of the competition, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, once again assured sports-loving Nigerians of the dedication to excellence of the country’s contingent and their determination to compete successfully.
He said, “Based on condition precedent and the resilience of our special athletes especially when on international assignments, I have no doubt in my mind that these athletes will again make Nigeria proud.
“Their ability to excel and Win medals is in no doubt. They have been consistent. They have trained long and hard.”
