July 16, (THEWILL) – Neuchâtel Xamax, the Swiss football club, has announced the signing of Nigerian striker, Paschal Onyekachi Durugbor.
The 24-year-old forward, who previously played for Sporting Lagos in Nigeria’s Premier Football League (NPFL), has joined the Swiss Challenge League side after impressing during a two-week trial period.
Paschal’s arrival at La Maladière marks a significant step in his career, as he returns to European football following previous stints in Sweden, Tunisia, and Libya. The versatile attacker, capable of playing as a central striker or on the wings, wasted no time in making his mark, scoring the opening goal in a friendly match against FC Sion shortly after his arrival.
The Nigerian’s journey to Switzerland has been anything but conventional. After representing Nigeria at the Under-20 level in 2019, Paschal embarked on a globetrotting career that saw him play in various countries before returning to his homeland in October 2023. His performances for Sporting Lagos caught the eye of Neuchâtel Xamax scouts, leading to his current opportunity in the Swiss second tier.
Neuchâtel Xamax expressed their delight at securing Paschal’s signature, with a club statement that read in part: “The club is delighted with his arrival and welcomes him to La Maladière after he completed a successful two-week trial.” While the financial details and length of the contract remain undisclosed, the club’s enthusiasm suggests high expectations for their new signing.
With Paschal settling into his new surroundings and life after Sporting Lagos, the onus will be on the Nigerian striker to help propel Neuchâtel Xamax towards their goal of promotion to the Swiss Super League.
