June 30, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s record-setting boxer Efe Ajagba is one of two still undefeated contenders for the World Boxing Council (WBC) title that Tyson Fury holds and could challenge for that after his crucial clash against the other unbeaten heavyweight contender, Frank Sanchez.
As reported by THEWILL, Fury will once more enter the ring with the WBC heavyweight belt on the line against the American he defeated for the title, Deontay Wilder, for the third in their trilogy of bouts.
As an undercard fight to the Fury versus Wilder III battle, Ajagba and Sanchez will trade blows to further their world title ambitions in their July 24 bout, with each boxer putting their undefeated status at the risk of being lost.
The Nigerian pugilist is currently ranked ninth by the WBC, which keeps his objective of becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world within his sights. Victory over Sanchez, who is ranked three places below him, will be a major step towards challenging Fury, or whoever holds the title after July 24.
It is the sort of circumstances Ajagba had prepared all his life for since taking to boxing as a professional. The 27-year-old put this in his own words: “I have been patiently waiting for this opportunity to showcase my skills.
“My fans and critics can expect to see more jabs, head movement, footwork and power in both hands against Frank Sánchez. July 24 is going to be a special night for ‘The One and Only’ Efe Ajagba.”
Sanchez, who is guided by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso, insists he is relishing a showdown with the explosive Nigerian in their upcoming bout. He said: “I look forward to fighting Efe Ajagba and coming out victorious.
“Boxing fans want to see the best fight the best. People say Efe Ajagba is avoided, and that’s exactly why I chose to fight him. Fans can expect a great fight between two undefeated heavyweights on July 24.”
