June 03, (THEWILL) – RB Leipzig emerged victorious in a hard-fought clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, securing a 2-0 win to retain the DFB-Pokal in an intense final held at the Olympiastadion on Saturday.
Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai were the heroes for Leipzig, with Nkunku netting a deflected effort in the 71st minute. Playing what could possibly be his final game for Leipzig, Nkunku set up Szoboszlai in the dying minutes of the match, sealing the victory for his team. The win marked Leipzig’s second major trophy in two consecutive seasons, an impressive feat for the Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, it was a forgettable finale for Eintracht under the guidance of Oliver Glasner. The encounter began with Timo Werner missing a golden opportunity to put Leipzig in the lead, as he side-footed the ball straight at Kevin Trapp just four minutes into the game. With Eintracht unable to mount a comeback, Leipzig sealed their victory when Szoboszlai confidently fired into the bottom-left corner, a result of Nkunku’s composed play.
