February 27, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actor, Olumide Oworu, has shared why he stepped into politics, saying the state of the country motivated him to take action.

Oworu, who is best known for playing Tari in the African Magic sitcom ‘The Johnsons’, said he could no longer ignore how government decisions affect his daily life and future.

In a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, the 31-year-old explained, “I decided to join politics because of how the country is going. I know how Nigeria was when I was younger, but now, things keep getting worse. And I want to start a family and raise my kids here”, he said.

Oworu said he wants to be part of the decisions that shape the country and added that the older age of many current leaders also motivated him to step forward and represent his generation.

“So, I have to make sure I try my best to be among the policymakers because whatever policy is enacted will ultimately affect me like every other common person. And also, most of the present crop of politicians are ageing out, and whatever policy they are making today, my friends and I will be at the receiving end tomorrow”, he said.

In 2023, Oworu contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing the Surulere 1 constituency under the Labour Party. He says he remains determined to stay involved in politics and help shape a better future for Nigeria and his generation.
