February 24, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has announced that he is quitting acting to pursue a music career.
He shared the news in a series of videos on his Instagram page on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
“I have stopped acting in films. I quit. There was a time I never thought I would say that sentence for a short period of time, but I won’t lie. I feel like I have to clear the air because I get this question a lot” he said
Emodi recalled some challenging experiences on film sets, including one where he continued shooting despite hearing gunshots nearby.
He added that although his family does not support his decision, he understands their concerns and wants to uphold the family name.
He stated,
“I have put in a lot of work in Nollywood. I shot a film in a town that I won’t say, but we were literally hearing gunshots. There was a craziness going on in the town next to our town, and we were still shooting.”
“This is a decision that has come with a lot of consequences. My family does not support this. It is a family with strict rules and a reputation to protect, which is understandable, and I respect their decision. I won’t do anything that would bring any stain to the name.”
Despite stepping back from acting, Emodi said he is not leaving the entertainment scene. He has already released music and plans to drop an EP.
He shared, “I love music. I have always loved music. I make good music. I want you guys to come with me on this journey. I love every single Nollywood fan, and I am not leaving you. I am just going to make music. We’re working on my EP… and we’re coming.”
He urged fans to support his decision and not hold it against him, acknowledging that turning down film roles was not easy, but following his passion was necessary.
The announcement comes nearly three years after he took a brief hiatus from acting due to anxiety and health concerns
Before this announcement, Ray Emodi was a well-known Nollywood actor, appearing in films alongside stars like Mercy Johnson-Okojie, Sonia Uche, Ruth Kadiri, Rita Dominic, and others.
