July 07, (THEWILL) — Rising Nollywood actress, Cynthia Anijekwu, also known as Nkachukwu Anijekwu, has appealed to Nigerians for financial support after revealing that she is battling cancer for the second time.
The actress shared her condition in an emotional video posted by fellow actress Destiny Etiko. Anijekwu revealed that she was first diagnosed with cancer in 2023 and underwent surgery and chemotherapy.
She said the treatment initially helped manage the condition, but the cancer later returned and has now spread to her bones. According to her, doctors have recommended further treatment, including radiation therapy and another surgery.
Anijekwu said the cost of treatment has become a major challenge, adding that she now spends over ₦600,000 monthly on medical care.
“I had cancer in 2023. I did my surgery and took chemotherapy, but later it came back again. I’ve been in and out of the hospital. The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive”, she said.
The actress also made an emotional appeal for help, saying: “I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help.”
Following Destiny Etiko’s appeal, Anijekwu later shared an update thanking Nigerians for their support. She revealed that she had received about ₦7 million in donations but still needs more funds to reach her ₦20 million treatment target. She added that doctors may need to remove her second breast and continue with radiation treatment.
Before her health challenge became public, Anijekwu featured in several Nollywood productions, including English and Igbo-language films.
Destiny Etiko has continued to encourage Nigerians and fans to support the actress during her treatment journey.
