February 11, (THEWILL) — The family of Nollywood veteran actor Pete Edochie has dismissed viral rumours claiming he had died.
Speaking for the family, Pete’s eldest son, Leo Edochie, described the reports as a “lie from the pit of hell” in a video shared on Instagram.
Leo said: “I’ve been receiving text messages and calls over the nonsense post by some people that our father, Chief Pete Edochie, is dead.
“ It is a lie from the pit of hell. Our father is alive, hale and hearty. And if you wish someone dead, two things usually happen. The person will live very long and you will die before him. Shame to all of you.”
Edochie’s team, Afrolens Media, confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that the 78-year-old actor is well and going about his daily life.
The statement read:
“We wish to categorically state that the news circulating on some blogs and social media platforms claiming that veteran Nollywood actor Chief Pete Edochie is no longer with us is completely false, malicious, and deeply irresponsible. Chief Pete Edochie is alive, well, and actively going about his daily engagements.”
It added that the false reports have caused “unnecessary panic and emotional distress to him, his family, colleagues, fans, and the Nigerian entertainment industry at large.”
The statement warned bloggers and media platforms to stop sharing unverified information, noting that legal action may be taken if such reports continue.
Finally, the team urged the public to rely solely on Pete Edochie’s official Instagram account, @peteedochie, as the only credible source for information about the actor, adding: “Let us uphold professionalism, integrity, and humanity in reporting, blogging, and content creation because HUMANITY IS THE ESSENCE OF LIFE.”
