June 07, (THEWILL) – Rivers Angels and Delta Queens commenced their quest for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title with triumphant performances in the opening games of the Super Six tournament.
In a clash against Robo Queens, Rivers Angels emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. The match took place on Tuesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, where domestic football enthusiasts gathered to witness the ladies trade tackles. Rivers Angels seized the initiative as Chaimaka Okwuchukwu broke the deadlock in the 36th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Adaobi Okah further bolstered their lead in the 79th minute, securing a bright start to the Super Six for the team.
Meanwhile, Delta Queens triumphed over Confluence Queens in an exhilarating encounter, with a final score of 3-1. The game showcased a thrilling display of talent from both sides, as Ekpenyong Effiom opened the scoring for the hosts in the 19th minute. Peter Martha swiftly responded for Confluence Queens, leveling the score with a splendid finish. Samuel Vera regained the lead for Delta Queens in the 34th minute, and Ekpenyong Effiom sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute.
The Super Six tournament continues with more enthralling matches, as Bayelsa Queens take on Robo Queens and Rivers Angels face Bayelsa Queens in the forthcoming games of Group A. In Group B, Confluence Queens will clash with Edo Queens on Wednesday, while Edo Queens will later lock horns with Delta Queens on Thursday.
