SAN FRANCISCO, November 29, (THEWILL) –Â Constant Omari, the interim President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) heaped praise on the organisation of this year’s CAF TOTAL Champions League after everything football has had to contend with on the continent.
Omari was present when the historic final between Egypt’s arch-rivals Al-Ahly SC and Zamalek SC from Cairo was played in the attendance of the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy.
Al-Ahly defeated city rivals 2-1 on Friday night to win the 2019/2020 edition of the competition for a record-extending ninth time.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the entire CAF team for having fulfilled their mission this season with remarkable success, despite the difficult times we had to face with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I congratulate the two finalists which honored the values ​​of football. It was a derby of great dignity,” Omari said.
On the sidelines of this event, Omari received Patrice Motsepe, South African mining billionaire businessman and President of the Rainbow Nation’s domestic football club Mamelodi Sundowns. Motsepe is also one of the aspiring candidates for the Presidency of CAF.
The electoral process and the future of CAF were on the agenda of their meeting. Omari will hold a meeting with the staff of CAF at the body’s headquarters in Cairo on Sunday.
