October 18, (THEWILL) — Trabzonspor claimed three points in the Black Sea derby on Saturday, defeating Çaykur Rizespor 2-1 in the ninth week of the Turkish Süper Lig.
The visitors struck twice in the opening 20 minutes to claim their third consecutive victory.
Felipe Augusto opened the scoring after just two minutes when Olaigbe’s pass deflected off Atilla Mocsi in the penalty area.
Paul Onuachu extended the lead in the 19th minute with a header from Oulai’s free-kick delivery.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi pulled one back for the hosts in the 27th minute, capitalising on a misplaced back pass from Savic to finish past goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Onuachu’s goal marked his fifth in four league matches for Fatih Tekke’s side.
The Nigerian international has now netted seven times in nine Süper Lig appearances this season, adding one assist to his tally.
The result lifted Trabzonspor to 20 points, whilst Rizespor remained on eight.
The home side created opportunities after the interval, with Jurecka and Zeqiri both failing to convert chances in the second half.
Rizespor will face Başakşehir at home in the next round, whilst Trabzonspor prepares to host Eyüpspor.
The visitors maintained their strong form with goals in both halves proving sufficient despite late pressure from the hosts.
