July 19, (THEWILL) – Chris Richards, a defender for Bayern Munich, and Premier League team Crystal Palace have verbally agreed to terms for the transfer of the 22-year-old to the English Premier League.

The US international played 21 appearances across all competitions while on loan at Hoffenheim during the previous season, playing 34 games in all during two loan stints at TSG.

Richards still has three years left on his contract with Bayern Munich, but with the impending arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, it may be difficult for him to find playing time. Bayern are also willing to sell one or two central defenders in order to make room for the Dutchman.

Palace and Bayern are currently in negotiations after coming to an agreement with Richards, and it is up to the EPL club to make Bayern an opening offer.

As TSG expressed interest in re-signing the American central defender, it was suggested on Sunday that Bayern may have used Richards as a makeweight to sign David Raum from Hoffenheim. However, it now appears like Palace has moved for Richards before Hoffenheim.
